What makes a B3 a B3

It's sheepskin with the wool left on, worn wool side in. That thick fleece holds heat and still lets your body breathe, so you stay warm without getting clammy. The big shearling collar flips up and fastens with leather straps. A B6 is the lighter cousin, slimmer and less bulky, and better suited to milder winters.

Sizing and care

Shearling is thick, so measure your chest over the layers you plan to wear and compare it with our size chart. Keep it dry, brush the wool now and then and never dry it near a heater. Our shearling jacket buying guide and guide to leather flight jackets go deeper. Want something lighter? See our men's leather bomber jackets or leather winter coats.

FAQs

What is a B3 bomber jacket?
A heavy sheepskin flight jacket first issued to US bomber crews in the 1930s. The wool sits on the inside for warmth, and the big shearling collar closes with leather straps.
How warm is a B3 jacket?
Very. Sheepskin shearling is one of the warmest materials you can wear, and a B3 handles freezing weather with just a sweater underneath.
What's the difference between a B3 and a B6?
The B3 is heavier, with a larger collar, and it was built for extreme cold. The B6 is lighter and slimmer, so it's easier for everyday winter wear.
Is shearling real fur?
Real shearling is sheepskin with the wool still attached. A few styles here use faux fur or a sherpa fleece lining instead, and each product page says which.
